Donna’s dream of running a Victorian Bed and Breakfast is almost a reality. Her lack of inn keeping expertise, a shabby house in need of dire renovation and lack of money has slowed her down a bit. The murdered man in the upstairs parlor is her biggest obstacle. Less determined people might give up, but not Donna. No killer is going to stop her from serving apple crumb cake to high paying guests. Her natural skill at the Clue board game, along with the grudging assistance of veteran detective, Mark Taber, an overweight puggle, and a chatty octogenarian neighbor should help her sniff out the killer unless she’s snuffed out first.

This is a fun story with interesting and very real characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the hunt for the murdered with this batch of people. I’m looking forward to reading more of the books in this fun series!

I really enjoyed this fun group of magical friends (like Scooby Doo's gang if they were magic) and especially got a kick out of the curmudgeonly talking turtle, Ridley, Quinn's familiar. (I doubt if Ridley would like being compared to a Great Dane though, lol). I liked the new friend they got along the way too, and now they're quite the sleuthing team, although every one of them is magical in some way except for the new person. It'll be interesting if they ever reveal their abilities to her since King's Tide is a place where magicals and non-magic people exist together. Maybe she's got a cool hidden magic they don't know about yet.
I was completely surprised by the killer, there was an exciting showdown and a good lead-in for the next book! Now I'm really anxious to borrow that one from KU and get into that story line!
